Program Description:
The Public Health Assessment Training (PHAT) online modules are designed to increase knowledge and change competency of environmental health practices and strategies. The content of the modules is derived from the method used by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), which is known as the public health assessment (PHA), to evaluate exposure to hazardous substances.

Module 7: Health Effects Evaluation is the seventh PHAT module. It explains how to perform a health effects evaluation as part of ATSDR PHA process. It illustrates the steps of the health effects evaluation using a case study exercise and teaches how to closely examine potential contaminants of concern for chemical exposure pathways.

Objectives:
At the conclusion of Module 7: Health Effects Evaluation, the participant will be able to:

  1. Explain the purpose of the health effects evaluation in the PHA process.
  2. Define key terms related to the health effects evaluation.
  3. Describe how to conduct each step of the health effects evaluation.
  4. Perform a health effects evaluation for an environmental case study.
