Clinician Overview: Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)

Description

This instructional video is designed to increase awareness among healthcare professionals about PCBs and their health effects. It also intends to enhance competency in the recognition, management, and counseling of patients exposed to environmental hazards.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participant should be able to:

  1. List properties of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
  2. List sources of PCBs
  3. Describe routes of PCB exposure
  4. Explain potential health effects of exposure to elevated levels of PCBs
  5. Describe appropriate clinical evaluation, diagnostic testing, and treatment following exposure
  6. Describe patient follow-up recommendations
  7. Describe strategies to reduce exposure and risk from PCBs

Clinicians in practice and in training, including physicians, fellows, residents, medical students, nurse practitioners, physicians’ assistants, nurses, and nursing students.
