What to know

The goal of the Environmental Health and Land Reuse (EHLR) accredited training is to increase participants’ capacity and skills associated with land reuse activities that are necessary to deem the land safe. The six-module EHLR Certificate Training has received CDC TRAIN accreditation and is available for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for environmental health professionals and students in public health or environmental science degree programs. An EHLR accredited training certificate is available via CDC TRAIN upon successful completion of each module (i.e., pass the post-assessment with a minimum score of 70%).

Instructions for Obtaining Continuing Education (CE)

To receive continuing education (CE) for Accredited Environmental Health and Land Reuse (EHLR) Certificate Training Modules. Please visit CDC TRAIN and search for the courses in the Courses Catalog, e.g., typing "EHLR" in the search box will give you the links to all five modules, or search by individual course name or course number. Follow the steps below.

  • Register for and complete the course.
  • Pass the post-assessment at 70%.
  • Complete the evaluation.
  • Visit Your Learning to access your certificates and transcript.
FEES: No fees are charged for CDC's CE activities.

EHLR Certificate Training Introduction

The Introduction Module describes the 5-Step Land Reuse Model and provides the definitions of land reuse sites and why EHLR education is important.

Module 1: Engaging with Your Community (WD4772) 

Provides information on engaging with your community, such as creating and activating a development community, the 5-step Land Reuse Model and Land Reuse (Healthfields) Toolkits, and roles, responsibilities, and scope of a development community team member.

Module 2: Evaluating Environmental and Health Risks (WD4773)

Provides a basic overview of environmental health and site assessment.

Module 3: Communicating Environmental and Health Risks (WD4774)

Provides a basic overview of risk communication and its application.

Module 4: Redesigning with Health in Mind (WD4775)

Provides a basic overview of site cleanup and working with community partners to fulfill their vision.

Module 5: Measuring Success: Evaluating Environmental and Health Change (WD4776)

Provides a basic overview of measuring success, or the positive (or negative) community changes that occur throughout the lifecycle of the project.
