The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) established and strengthened partnerships to protect public health. The American Planning Association and Region II Head Start Program are important non-public health entities. These organizations help with locating child care facilities in environmentally safe places. DSHS's joint training and outreach with these organizations measurably increased these knowledge and skills of their staff professionals. DSHS also partnered with the National Environmental Health Association and several local planning and child care organizations. These partnerships will continue to benefit public health beyond the project period.
