At a glance
In this webinar, you will learn key steps in the ATSDR public health assessment, including calculating ingestion doses and determining air concentrations to evaluate potential inhalation exposures.

Training overview
In this webinar, you will learn how to perform various steps of the health effects evaluation as part of the ATSDR public health assessment (PHA) process. For example, you will learn how to perform dose calculations from the ingestion of contaminated media and how to determine air concentrations for evaluating inhalation exposures. This webinar complements Module 7 – Health Effects Evaluation.
Training objectives
At the conclusion of the Public Health Assessment Webinar: Performing Exposure Calculations, you will be able to:
1. Evaluate quantitatively the contaminants that met or exceeded the comparison values (CVs) in Module 6
2. Calculate exposure doses for two routes (ingestion and dermal contact)
3. Derive hazard quotients (HQs) to evaluate noncancer hazards
4. Calculate cancer risks (CRs) for carcinogenic contaminants
5. Evaluate exposure to contaminants in air
6. Evaluate exposure scenarios using ATSDR's Public Health Assessment Site Tool (PHAST)
7. Describe the importance of interprofessional collaboration in conducting the Public Health Assessment
Target audience
Public health professionals involved or interested in the PHA process, including:
- Environmental Health Specialists, Toxicologists, and Epidemiologists
- Health Communicators, Health Educators, and Community Involvement Specialists
- Medical Officers and Registered Nurses
- Program Managers
