ATLANTA, GA – Today, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a federal public health agency, released its draft report for public comment, Evaluation of Ethylene Oxide in Outdoor Air Near the Sterigenics Sterilization Facility in Cobb County, Georgia. After the facility began operating with new emissions controls in April 2020, data indicate Sterigenics did not have a major influence on EtO concentrations in Cobb County.

ATSDR scientists will discuss the overall findings of the report with the community at a virtual public meeting.

During the virtual public meeting, community members can learn about ATSDR's evaluation of ethylene oxide (EtO) in the outdoor air near the Sterigenics commercial sterilization facility in Cobb County, Georgia.
Attendees who wish to submit questions in advance may email EtO@cdc.gov by 12 PM on January 27th.
ATSDR will accept comments to the report until March 6, 2026. Comments on the report may be submitted electronically to OCHHAPublicComment@cdc.gov or in writing.

The public comment process gives the community an opportunity to review the report and provide input. ATSDR's responses to those comments will be included in an appendix of the final report. The report will not include the names of people submitting comments. However, names may be released if ATSDR receives a U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
